A Syrian gold-inlaid shamshir,1st half of the 19th century. Slightly curved single-edged blade of finely patterned wootz-Damascus. A gold-filled smith's mark struck on one side. The iron quillons and the grip entirely covered with rich gold-inlaid vine decoration. Wooden scabbard covered with shagreen leather stitched with fine silver wire. Iron fittings richly decorated with gold inlay. Leather scabbard cover has a small defect,one suspension ring missing.
