Astronaut and lunar rover, Apollo 15. US astronaut James B. Irwin is standing next to the Lunar Roving Vehicle, on the surface of the Moon, during the Apollo 15 mission. Mount Hadley is in the background. This EVA (extravehicular activity) took place on 31st July 1971. Irwin and his colleague (Scott, taking the photograph) explored the area using the rover, collected samples, and carried out experiments using scientific equipment. Here, they are at the landing site, with the shadow of the Lunar Module Falcon seen in the foreground.
