The adoration of the Magi andthe announcement of the birth of Christ to the shepherds in themountains are expressed with a combination of serious intentionand playfulness characteristic of work of this cycle. In the foreground are two shepherds in blue garments. An-gels draped in blue and pink are floating in the air above theshed, which is painted a brilliant yellow; and under this, in theforeground, is seated the Virgin wTth Joseph at her side.
