Amherst Island is a area of about ten miles by two a mile offshore near the Eastern end of Lake Ontario. It is almost entirely agricultural with just a few who comute to Kingston via the small ferry and 8 mile drive. There is a shop, a school, some reasonable roads and a feeling of stepping back 50 years. The only access is by a small private car ferry which takes most of 1/2 an hour.
