In the distance is a white house, Thingvallarbær, official summer residence of the Icelandic Prime Ministern within the Pingvellir national park in southwest Iceland. In the foreground are the volcanic cliffs, the site of the world’s oldest open air parliamentary assembly known as the Altihng or Alþingi of Iceland. The assembly was held there annually from when it was founded in 930AD, and continued to be in use until 1798.
