The merchants of Gaitreport that business gen-erally compares very fav-orably with last year. AHardware and Metal re-presentative recentlyvisited a large number ofGaits retail firms, andalmost without exceptionthey reported that springbusiness so far has beenhighly satisfactory. Onehardware merchant statedthat sales for March andApril exceeded sales of the correspond-ing months of last year. Both city andfarm trade is good. Many of Gaitslargest industries have secured huge or-ders for war materials, and have kepttheir plants running to capacity. Thisin turn has had a good effect on the re-tail trade. A great many large ordersfor shells are being turned out in 32 May 15, 1915.
