The Commission maintains, in connection with its Operating Department, aStation Maintenance Field Staff, whose routine duties consist of maintaining inoperating condition the equipment in all the high-tension and distributing sta-tions. Municipalities and customers frequently call on the Commission forassistance in repairing and overhauling their equipment, and the service of thisstaff is at their disposal at all times. The rebuilding and returning to serviceof transformers which may fail from any cause whatsoever is handled by this staffwith greater dispatch and more economically than could be obtained by returningthe defective units to the manufacturer for repairs. Additional bracing wasadded to a number of the smaller transformers, in order to strengthen the wind-ing and make the transformer less susceptible to damage, due to the heavymechanical strain
