An officer's sabre,similar to the German model 1852/79. Lightly curved,Damascus steel,pipe-backed blade with a yelmen. Etched and gilded(worn)at the base of the blade,both sides displaying an eagle between vine designs with effaced scrolls. Iron knuckle-bow hilt with sharkskin grip cover and wire winding. Obverse engraved "Stoecklin Mascara 1879 3e Spahis 3e Escadron". Iron scabbard with two moveable suspension rings. Length 98 cm.
