A long French rapier, circa 1600. Sturdy thrusting blade of flattened hexagonal section with deep fullers in the upper third on both sides. The inscripton "SHAGVM" struck within the fullers. Elaborately worked blackened bar hilt with olive-shaped finials. The grip with iron wire wrapping and Turk's heads. Heavy olive-shaped pommel topped by a stepped riveted knob.
