Light micrograph (Interphako Contrast) of Amoeba proteus, a naked or shell-less amoeba. A characteristic feature of this group are the numerous pseudopodia (false feet), which constantly alter the outline of the organism. The pseudopodia are formed by cytoplasmic streaming and are used for locomotion and food collection. Numerous microbodies are visible within this amoeba's cytoplasm.
