Traditional funfair rides. A merry go round and helter skelter at Goose Fair, Nottingham, England, UK
This image is exclusive to Alamy. The fair dates back more than 700 years and is one of Europe’s biggest. The fair started around 1284 as a trading event, its name is derived from the thousands of geese that were driven from Lincolnshire to be sold in Nottingham. Until 1928 it was held in the Old Market Square in Nottingham city centre, but then moved to the Forest Recreation Ground about a mile north of the city centre because of redevelopment.
