It ex-preffes very well the general habit of the plant, which was ofa pale fea-green colour, and grew to the height of threefeet. The ftem is deciduous, but the root is part of the plant, when wounded, poured out a richmilky juice, refembiing in fmell and tafte-Afa foetida ; and attimes a fmell refembiing garlick, fuch as a faint impregnationof Afa foetida yields, was perceivable at the difta
