Smith5 built vessels on North River, alone and incompany with his brothers Albert5 and He waslost at sea, being washed overboard December 23, 1818,near the Three Sand Hills, on the coast of North Caro-lina. He was considered one of the smartest young menin his native town; and one dear old auntie, in telling ofher youthful days, used to say Minn Smith was thenicest young man she ever knew, and she never was sohappy as when receiving attention from him.
