Fig. 40 illustrates a 20-ton hydraulic coal-hoist of the direct-acting type in use at the Barry dock. The framing is 73£feet high by 26| feet wide from the dock side, 40 feet widein front, and 23J feet wide at the back at the base, the dis-tance between the guides being 14^ feet. The cradles are 24feet 2 inches long, 14 feet GJ inches wide outside the guide, 13^feet wide inside the opening, and fitted with a tip-table suitable.
