Monastery and Church of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra seen in Kiev, Ukraine. The Istanbul-based Ecumenical Patriarchate on 11 October 2018 said it had agreed to recognize the independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The synod also agreed to reinstate the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Patriarch Filaret and Kiev Metropolitan Makariy to their canonical ranks following their excommunication in the dispute with Moscow Patriarchy, and continues the procedure of granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
