Hepatoma and cirrhosis of liver tumour growing in portal vein


This is a photograph showing a hepatoma a malignant primary liver cancer in the liver of a patient with cirrhosis The hepatoma causes enlargement of the liver pain low blood pressure loss of appetite and weight and fluid buildup in the abdominal cavity called ascites It is most often found together with hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver In this case the hepatoma has invaded the portal vein a short vein that carries blood from the stomach and intestinal organs to the liver
