A broken column from the remains of the New (Jubilee) Synagogue Tarnów Poland

After the war, in 1946, Jewish sculptor Dawid Beker designed a monument - a broken column from the remains of the New (Jubilee) Synagogue and located it in the place of the victims' mass grave. The inscribed quotation "And the sun shone and was not " was taken from a poem of Nahman Bialik written after the slaughter of Kishniev Jews in Ukraine in 1903.
