Richard M. Scruggs, associated with the Scruggs, Vandervoort and Baqrney dry goods store, was a well known St. Louis philanthropist. This chair, a gift from Scruggs' sister Sallie Scruggs in 1859, was used as a home desk chair. wood chair has red velvet seat, curved dowel arms, 4 casters on turned legs, oval back panel.
