Though all regiments participatiug in the siege (whether in thecharge of IS July or not) were invited by Gen. Gillmore to send inthe names of deserving soldiers, there were a few regiments which de-clined the offered honor, on the basis that every man of the regiment hadbeen gallant and meritorious. Whether this position was warranted bythe facts, or whether it was a wise position, is not for the writer THE LLMORE MEDAL. The Third New Hampshire, through its officers, selected the requisitenumber of names, and they received the Gillmore medals. The followingis a list of the recipients : — Co. A : Privates Samuel D.
