Southern Byzantine Gate at Hierapolis ancient site in Denizli province of Turkey. Built of travertine blocks and reused masonry, some in marble, and flanked by two square towers. There is a large arch resting on a monolithic architrave. Hierapolis was an ancient Greek city located on hot springs in classical Phrygia in southwestern Anatolia. Its ruins are adjacent to modern Pamukkale.
