It mud alfo be obferved, that the vapour with whichthe water is to be impregnated, ought not to rum outof the diftilling vefTel with too great halle ; as in thiscafe a great quantity will unavoidably be loft, by rea-fon of the water not having time to abforb it all. Toavoid this, matters fhould be managed in fuch a man-ner, that, without feniibly interrupting the operationthe vapour may iffue from the diftilling velfel gra-dually, and without fudden explofions : by whichmeans the water will imbibe as fait as the velfel diftilsfor a certain time ; and in order to preferve all thevapour, there ought to be feveral receivers, one abovethe other, communicating by pipes, that the vapourwhich does not condenfe in one may do fo in the following apparatus may be ufed with fuc-cefs :. i. It may fc|§§|||||§f|be placed in a fand-bath ; or in cafe it ^sllliliilis luted, it may be put on an open fire, which, how-ever, ought not to be raifed to any great height. 2. The receivers ought to be large fquare citternsof wood, covered over on the infide with white wax,on which the acid has no effect; and they may be pla-ced, for the greater convenience, one above the other, with cocks fo iituafd, that the water of the uppercifterns may be difcharged into the lower ones as oc-caiion requires.
