Iritis, inflammation of the iris (brown) of the eye. This is an early stage of the condition, diagnosed by the slight reddening of the eye around the cornea (the central bulge that covers the iris). This is due to enlargement of the blood vessels in the eye, and is known as circumcorneal injection. The symptoms are a painful eye and an aversion to bright light (photophobia). Treatment is with steroid and mydriatic (pupil-dilating) eye drops.
