With the approach of frost the scarlet color isdisplayed, at which time the tree is a lovely sight, wellmeriting its name of Scarlet Oak. Its good qualitiesare so many that it ranks very high on the list of bestOaks to plant. Only one other, the Pin Oak, beats itfor several good reasons, chiefly its availability foravenue and other plantings, not for its Autumn , the Scarlet Oak, has a wide distribution in itswild condition, and though its foliage may differ alittle according to locality, its general traits are alwayspresent. Its acorns, too, often serve as a means otidentification, especially from the Black Oak, tinctoria,in which company it is often found.
