Heathcote National Park Sydney, Aust. Oct 2020: An out of control Hazard Reduction Burn in the park slows north travelling cars on the Princes Highway

Hazard Reduction Burning is done in the cooler months to reduce fuel loads in fire prone bush areas. It is usually done in small controlled sections with low impact on native animals who can quickly move to other areas. On occasions like this though, weather changes can quickly cause the fire to get out of control. This fire jumped a multilane highway and over a number of days burned an additional 200ha
