Itsprincipal streets are paved; it is provided with waterworksand sewerage; its board of health is vigorous and are few towns in the country that are more desirableas a place of temporary or permanent residence than Athens. The lover of natural scenery cannot fail to be charmedwith its picturesque surroundings. The winding valley of theHockhocking and the wooded hills beyond present a series of. OHIO UNIVERSITY 9 striking views from the University, while the wide prospects,as seen at certain seasons from some of the neighboring sum-mits, are seldom surpassed in quiet and varied beauty. The University buildings are located in a beautiful occupy a slight elevation extending east and west acrossthe grounds, fronting the north. Before them lies a park ofabout five acres containing a grove of fine forest trees andskirted along its northern limit by a row of magnificent these sentinel trees extends a greensward slopingbeautifully to the street.
