Just beyond the Seminary, in full sight up the valley, are the picketing grounds whichlong divided the two armies ; and near by is Baileys Cross Roads, where was man-oeuvred by the Union forces, in November, 1861, in the presence of President Lincolnpreparatory to the peninsula campaign, one of the grandest military reviews of anycountry or time. Through these camping and drilling grounds, and far on beyond,may still be traced the course of the old military road, laid out through the then densewilderness a hundred years jjrevious, by which a portion of Braddocks army underGeneral Halket marched on their disastrous expedition.
