Average Speed cameras monitor traffic through roadworks on the M5 Motorway through Bromsgrove, Worcestershire
Overhead speed cameras are strategically positioned over the lanes of the M5 motorway to restrict the speed of motorists who may flout the regulations. These are average speed cameras that measure th time it takes for a vehicle to travel between a camera stationed at one location and one further along the route. By averaging out the time it takes for a vehicle to travel that distance it can be calculated how fast the vehicle was travelling. New law being brought in could see fines for speeding motorists increase to £120. Last year it was estimated that speeding fines brought in nearly £100,000,000 in revenue for the treasury.
