Die Nikolai Kirche wurde von 1381 bis 1487 erbaut. Sie war die Kirche der Seefahrer und Fischer. In Ihr gab es einen extra Altar für die Schonenschiffer. Die Nikolaikirche gehört zu den größten Kirchen Mitteleuropas. Ihr Langschiff hat eine Höhe von 37 m. Der Turm der Kirche hatte eine Höhe von 120 m. Im Jahre 1703 zerstörte ein Sturm den Spitzhelm des Turms. Teile des Spitzhelms durchschlugen das Dach des Langschiffs und richteten große Zerstörungen an der Inneneinrichtung an. Die zerstörten Teile wurden dann im 18. Jahrhundert durch Teile im Barockstil ersetzt. Die Nikolai Kirche wird auch heute als Gotteshaus genutzt. Famous for its ornate facade and altars. The church of St Nicholas (Nikolaikirche), built in 1381-1460, with very lofty vaulting, is regarded as good examples of the influence exercised in these northern provinces . Of the three gigantic brick cathedrals, unfortunately only the St. Nikolai Church survived the war virtually unscathed.
