The use of the word x-ray to the word burn is a misappli-cation of the term and causes a false impression. The x-raysthemselves excite no appreciable heating effects, and conse-quently do not burn. All evidence seems to point to theconclusion that the lesion is due to the direct effect of theelectric currents upon the tissues and fluids. That electricityis capable of devitalizing and destroying tissue is well must be first proved that the x-ray dermatitis is not the re-sult of this devitalizing action before we have the right toattribute it to an unknown action of the Plate III.—Arteries of a child injected with mercury. (ByDr. A. V. L. Brokaw). The stud}- of injected vessels by means of theX-Rays is particularly interesting, the relationship to the osseoussystem showing far better than dissections. It must be remembered, however, that a print can in nowise be compared with the originalnegative for distinctness, for many of the finer points are lost in theprint.
