The office is now one of the most convenient news-jMiper offices in the city. The retail price of the paper was in the winter of1883 reduced to two cents, and the circulation was in consequence considerablyincreased. William W. Clapp is the present conductor of the Journal. The Herakl is a morning and evening paper, witha Sunday edition, and has an average daily circulation of over 100,000 copies,which is second to that of but one newspaper in America (the New York Sun).It has issued as many as 302,030 copies in a single day, a feat which is un-equalled in the liistory of journalism. The forms are stereotyped, since noother method would enable it to print the requisite number of copies witliin thelimited available tune. Tliis paper was founded in 1846, as a one-cent daily, bythe name of the American Eagle; and two years later assumed its present title,and took an independent position in politics, which it has maintained ever editorial staff includes 44 persons; and there are 84 compositors, 30 menin the business department, and 11 in the stereotyping foundry.
