Designed for injection into the muscles, this is an inactivated, adsorbed form of the vaccine that protects against Japanese encephalitis (JE), a disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). This disease is spread by mosquitoes and causes brain inflammation with vomiting, fever and seizures. The disease is prevalent in south-east Asia and the Pacific. The vaccine is given in two doses. This form of the vaccine is marketed under the brand name Ixiaro, by the Valneva pharmaceutical company.
