Description.—A small tree or shrub with light colored foli- age and young growth and opposite leaves. The flowers and fruit are clustered near the base of the small branohlets on spurs on very short stems. The plants are dioecious, i. s., one has pistillate and the other staminate flowers, so that it is necessary to have both kinds near together in order to get fruit. The flowers appear 68.
