In Chajul, formally a guerrilla stronghold and now under government control, the army have organised the men of the town into Civil Patrols and issued them with shotguns. This is very uncomfortable, as this puts them in direct confrontation with the guerrillas, and as subsistence farmers, the twice-weekly 24 hour patrol duty has a serious impact on their ability to cultivate.
