Bust of Wladimir Iljitsch Lenin at the entrance to the area of the Duga-1 (also called OTHR-1 or Russian Woodpecker) near Chernobyl within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. In the background is seen the Duga-1 array. The OTH is a Soviet built, over the horizon radar for intercontinental ballistic missile launches detection. The construction started in March 1972. The first broadcasts from this facility were read on July 4th 1976. In the morning of 26th April 1986 the radar's operations stopped.
