Costume of Pervenche, nouveau riche wife of a merchant. She wears a Primerose headdress of fanchon bonnet, Egyptian cameo and plumes, a spencer jacket of yellow satin, over a dress of silk and satin. She holds a pair of glasses on a chain. Handcoloured etching by Auguste Etienne Guillaumot Jr. from Costumes of the Directory, Rouquette, Paris, 1875. The etchings were made from designs by Eugene Lacoste and Draner after prints of the era 1795-99. The costumes are from theatre productions Merveilleuses and Pres Saint-Gervais by Victorien Sardou.
