This siiu dauce is distinguished for a deliberate violation of the falmerules by Teu-piiikia, Heart-eater, a noted warrior and inedicine-mau, rival of Ansote, the tahne keeper, andfather of Set-tau, the anthor of this calen-dar. One of the strictest regulations ofthe sun dauce was the taboo against mir-rors, which form part of the toilet equip-ment of nearly every Indian, but whichmust not even be brought near the faimeof the Kiowa. Notwithstanding this, Ten-jiiakia, in defiance of the medicine andits priest, deliberately rode around insidethe circle with a small mirror while thetaime was exposed, and afterward triedto poison AnsiVte by scraping off the mer-cury from the back and mixing it with sometobacco which he gave to the priest tosmoke.
