We all hopped on, and away we dashed, over theice and through the pools of water until we came aroundthe corner of the cliffs. Here we saw hundreds ot littlebirds called Little Auks perched on the rocks. Fathersaid it we could get ashore we might find some eggs, asthese birds lay their eggs among the loose rocks, withoutmaking a nest. Each bird lays one egg only. Afterquite a little trouble we reached the rocks and began tolook for eggs. I found the first one. After finding afew more we went on to the tents. At them we foundthat all the men had gone out to catch Little Auks, sowe went to the bird place. Here the rocks were actuallycovered with the birds. How they chattered! They wouldfly so close over our heads that we could see into theirlittle black eyes
