Ra?7ms pudicus internus. (Fig. Fig. 19. a.) The internal pudic arteryis not quite so large as the ischiadic. Itgenerally arises from the internal iliac alittle below the origin of the vessel justmentioned—sometimes in common withit, in which case the trunk which fur-nishes the two branches may not divideuntil it has escaped from the pelvis. Theartery descends at first in nearly a per-pendicular direction, in front of the sacralplexus of nerves, and in company with the ischiadic artery, which is a little pos-terior. It glides from the pelvis belowthe inferior margin of the pyriform mus-cle, reposes for a small distance upon theposterior face of the spine of the ischiumand the attachment of the anterior sacro-sciatic ligament, then turns forwardsthrough the lesser sciatic notch, between Fig. a, Internal Pudic. fc, Inferior Hemorrhoidal, c. Hav-ing made this turn, it courses along theinner surface of the tuber of the ischium, only separated from the bone by the inter-nal obturator muscle, and is bound downby the strong obturator or perineal it mounts upwards and forwardsalong the inner side of the ramus of theischium and pubis, to the vicinity of thelower margin of the symphisis, where itterminates by dividing into two branches—the ramulus corporis cavernosi penis, and the ramulus dorsalis penis. The first portion of the internal pudicartery, which is contained within thecavity of the pelvis, distributes smallbranches to the bladder, prostate gland, vesiculse seminalis, and rectum,—to thevagina in the fem
