Thus, though in theabove feries we can eafily find the logarithm of 4, 8,&c. we cannot find that of 3, 6, 9, &c.; and ifweaf-fume any random numbers for them, they will not cor-refpond with thofe which have already been aSTumedfor 4, 8, 16^ &c. In the construction of every table,however, it was evident,, that the arithmetical or lo-garithmic feries ought to begin with o ; ibr if it beganwith unity, then ihe fum of the logarithms of any twonumbers muft be diminished by unity before we couldfind the logarithm of the. product.
