Detail of the façade of the Melngalvju nams (House of the Blackheads). Located at Ratslaukums (the Town Hall Square), in the heart of Vecriga (Riga Old Town), the exquisite Gothic-style House of the Blackheads, originally from the 14th century, was rebuilt in 1999 for the 800th century anniversary of Riga in 2001. The historic center of Riga was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997.
