History of the Connecticut Valley in Massachusetts, with illustrations and biographical sketches of some of its prominent men and pioneers . e of Broad Brook, where in lateyears Pearson Hendrick lived. Other families in this neighborhood, probably before theRevolution, were Joel Robbins, Benjamin Stephens, and Ben-jamin Strong. With the thirty families thus mentioned, from John Webbdown for a hundred years, there were undoubtedly otherswhose names are not preserved. Perhaps the true pioneer period of a town may be said to bethe time of settlement preceding civil organization. In thecase of Easthampton this is longer than usual, owing to theterritory remaining for many years, both ecclesiastically andcivilly, a part of Northampton. No early assessment-roll of polls and estates seems to bepreserved in the town-clerks office of Easthampton, and acomplete list of settlers at the time of incorporation cannotbe easily made. The names appearing in the proceedings of the early town-meetings are mentioned in the following list, with their loca-tion in town, as far as can be readily stated after the lapse ofnearly one hundred years:.
