Fromout the doorway come the monks, hooded and cowled; on the right, apeasant woman sits, her hands clasped across her knee, beside an old man ofpoverty-stricken appearance. On the left, a man is stretched at full length,sound asleep, and in the centre a little girl stands, her back against theplaster wall, her eyes closed as though in slumber, evidently the model forthe artist who sits in the corner sketching the scene before him, a small boylooking over his shoulder to follow the lines of his busy pencil.
