Fisher was born nearQuincy, in Franklin county, Pa., in1822. On his paternal side he wasdescended from his grandfather Fred-erick Fisher who was born in Ger-many in 1746 and came to Philadel-phia in 1764. Fie learned the trade ofa blacksmith in Philadelphia and af-terwards went to Lancaster county,Pa., where he was married and re-mained engaged at his trade for sev-eral years when • in 1773 he removedwith his family to what later becameWashington township, Fianklincounty, Pa. near Quincy, but thentermed the Conochocheague Settle-ment in the Cumberland Valleywhere he prospere
