Hejoined the department in 1891 as truck-man of Truck No. 3, then transferred toEngine No. 17, of which he becameassistant foreman. Was appointed fore-man of Engine No. 9 in 1897, irid nowranks as captain of Engine No. 6. The other members of the companyare: Lieutenant, Julius De Meyer; en-gineer, P. H. Brandon ; driver, JosephMcDonald ; stoker, Charles Neil; hose-men, John Titus, Edward Daunet,Patrick Sullivan, Thomas Parker andJoseph Bailey. For nearly 35 years the company hasbattled with the flames at all the notablefires of this city, and has saved the mer-cantile community many hundreds ofthousands of dollars against loss by has an American fire engine.
