In New York, the popular prejudiceagainst dissection culminated in the cele-brated Doctors Mob of April, 1-88. DoctorRichard Bayley, having waved the arm of acadaver at a boy w ho was peeping throughthe window of the Society of the Hospital inthe City of New York,^* a mob collectedwhich stormed the buildings, burnedBayleys valuable pathological collection,and attacked the jail whitlur the Doctorshad lied. Seven rioteis were killed andseveral more wounded belore the distur-bance was quelled by the militia.
