A painted portrait of a royal and imperial transport corps major, circa 1848 Signed and dated "Ziegler 1843". Oil on cardboard. Portrayed in uniform with sabre, bicorn, and wearing the army cross. Worn frame plated with tainted silver. Dimensions x 40 cm. Extremely rare portrait, as there were only five majors of the royal and imperial transport corps in 1848. The painting was probably done in 1843, but the silver rank lace was added to the collar in 1848. These were introduced in 1848, but were replaced by the rank stars in 1849.
