Cevennes schist is metamorphic rock containing chlorite, and black and white micas. Quartz also occurs in thin layers of light colour or in lenticules. The primary sedimentary rock was a marine sand-rich clay that metamorphosed about 360 million years ago. Cevennes schist is used for roof tiles. This is an exhibit in the open air geology museum, Geoscope at the Aire de la Lozere, France.
