Cooley Airship. This large aircraft, designed to carry passengers, was built to designs drawn up by John F. Cooley of Rochester, New York, USA. He proposed to build a 25-metre-long passenger aircraft with backing provided by investors. Construction began in 1910, but the airship was never completed and Cooley left town with debts outstanding. The airship was seized and signed over to a local grocer who was owed money by Cooley. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries. The bulk of the Bain images date from the period from the 1890s to the 1930s.
