The bravemen living and dead who fought here have consecrated itfar beyond our power. However, it is impossible for theworld to know the story of each mans hfe in that greatCivil War, so I wish to leave my children and grand-childrenan account of my life, that they may know that William was a loyal, true-hearted soldier in those self-sacrificing days. But before I tell the story of my life onthe battlefield let me relate a few facts concerning myearly life.
