We give the following directions to those who wish to profit by them : first get the ground in the desired shape and grade, taking care when hills are removed, that sufficient sub-soil is taken off, so as to replace it with good top-soil, at least to the depth of six inches all over the surface of the lawn; the ground should be drained wherever necessary, thoroughly plowed, sub-soiled, and har- rowed, until completely pulverized, removing all stones, roots, etc., so as to obtain an even and smooth surface, apply from two to three hun-
